So How Does This Work If I Hire You To Teach At My Event ?
Please Note: We teach the dances with no music, going over the steps several times until the majority of the group has a good grasp of the dance. Then we play a song or two off of one of our CD ‘s (so that we know the exact tempo and we can ensure that it is not too fast/slow and is an appropriate song for the dance.)
When learning to dance it is important that the first few songs are the right tempo and style so that the students can actually enjoy doing the dance and can gain some confidence.
When we’re coordinating with a band or DJ, after teaching and playing a couple of songs from our library (iTunes/CD’s), we turn things over to the Band/DJ to play their music, while keeping an ear open for possible songs that the dance can be done to. When a song is played that ‘fits’ the dance, we encourage everyone to join us on the dance floor.
Not all bands play the same songs the same way, at the same tempo. Therefore utilizing the recorded music really helps the students get comfortable with the dance. We do have several local bands that we work with regularly – where we are familiar with their music and can request specific songs.
When working with a band or DJ, there are several different scenarios of how event schedules have been set-up in the past .
As an example: Dinner/Dance – Dance Instruction booked for 2-Hours 6:00-7:30 Band/DJ plays during dinner (at a lower volume) 7:30 The Band/DJ ‘turns-it-up’ and plays for 20-30 minutes (Client decides time frame) 8:00 Dance Instruction begins, Instructor plays a couple of songs (from CD) so the group can practice and gain confidence. (approx. 20 – 25 minutes) 8:30 Band/DJ starts back up and plays 30 minutes or so 9:00 Dance Instruction begins, Instructor plays a couple of songs (from CD) so the group can practice and gain confidence (approx. 20 – 25 minutes) 9:30 Band/DJ starts back up and plays ‘till the end of the event *Dance instructors leave at the end of the 2-hour booking ——-Sometimes we’re asked to teach before Bands/DJ’s start playing
Sometimes we’re asked to teach during the first break
Sometimes we’re asked to teach throughout an evening
Sometimes we’re asked to teach once or twice, and then asked to stay and dance to keep the guests motivated to be out on the dance floor during the remainder of the event
